Are there any good FOOD diets?

January 222010

I am 17 and want to go on a food diet because I’m starting to workout and stay in shape..so are there any websites i could go to that would give me the actual foods i need to eat! A diet for a flat stomach and no love handles!! lol!
PLEASE b sure it’s a simple diet. one i can do at home!! thank you very much.. i really appreciate it!!

You can eat what you want as long as you don’t over do it.

In Paul McKenna’s diet, You can eat what you want. But you eat when your hungry. And chew 20 times and chew quarter the speed you usually would, and keep doing that. Then when your stomach gives you the signal when to stop. You stop leave everything on your plate.

And theres a 75% chance that Your hydrated not hungry so always drink water and if your feeling hungry still theres the chance you are hungry.

Threes too sorts of hungers

Emotional Hunger – Is sudden you think " oh i think i might want some fries or chips " something like that.

Physical hunger – is gradual you think earlier " oh feeling little bit hungry" , " Im feeling more hungry now"

people have successfully lost weight using this diet. Diets are no fun theres no freedom. With this diet you can eat what you like. But only when you are hungry.

Take out all the foods you don’t like in your fridge and bin them.

So here are the rules.

1. Eat when you are hungry

2. Eat what you want, not what you think you should.

3. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful.

4. Stop when ever you THINK your full.

Some people asked " what should i do if in 10 Min’s im hungry "

Eat when you are…HUNGRY

Excerise iisn’t essentional unless you want it to be.

Hope i helped.

Is Purina Veterinary Diets NF Kidney Function Cat Food similar to Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Senior?

January 132010

My vet recommends the Purina Kidney Function Cat Food, but it’s rather pricey. Does anyone know if the Nutro Natural brand is similar in nutritional content? Or any other brand that is less expensive and low in protein and phosphorus. Thanks!

NF is a prescription food specifically designed to protect the kidneys. It is prescribed in cases where the kidneys are displaying decreased function and should be fed to older cats with some level of kidney disease.

Nutro Natural Choice is an over the counter diet suitable for any healthy, older cat.

If your veterinarian is recommending NF, then likely your cat has some level of kidney function loss and you would be doing more to maintain your cat’s long-term health by continuing to feed the special diet than by switching to an over the counter diet. There are other options available that are suitable for this situation, but they are prescription diets, also. Science Diet K/D or Iams MultiStage Renal are comparable diets. Anything that is over the counter is not going to be comparable because over the counter diets have to be designed generically for healthy cats.

Think of it as Tylenol vs. Darvocet following a broken leg.
Nutro Senior = Tylenol
NF = Darvocet

Your cat has a specific problem that can be addressed through diet – think of it as a tasty daily medication, and maybe the cost won’t seem so high.

What are some alternative food diets?

December 72009

I’m doing a project and need to choose an alternative food diet (like fruitarian, raw food diet, etc) than the standard american one. Can anyone give me some ideas?

Thanks! :)

Vegen will be easiest

There’s heaps of information available on it.

I have 3 cats one is a year old, the other 2 are 8 years old, how can i change their diets to mature food?

October 262009

how can i change their diets, without including the year old cat?she eats what they eat, do i sneak her off to eat by herself? i know she still needs her high protein food, or is their a food for all, mature and young cats?

All your cats need a high quality meat protein food whatever their "life stage". Healthy cats eat a 60% meat protein diet at all stages of their lives and it is only the inexpensive, poor quality pet foods who come up with this promotional nonsense.

You have many choices for quality pet food: Natural Balance, Eagle Pack, Solid Gold, CA Natural, Felidae, Blue etc. A good balance of canned and dry is also the best food for all your cats.

Go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe’s articles titled "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food and "What Cats Should Eat", "Why Cats Need Canned Food", "Does Dry Food Clean the Teeth?"

How can I eat better when my mom is against diets and healthy types of food?

October 242009

I eat too much junkfood and I can’t really help it but I always feel really fat. And whenever I try to eat healthier I can’t because I crave all the junkfood too much. And if I tell my mom that I want to go on a diet, then she freaks out. So how canI eat healthier with all this going on?

Your mum might be really against you going on a diet because she’s worried about you worrying about your weight, so it sounds like she’s a good mum even if you don’t agree on this point.

You don’t have to announce that you’re going on a diet – just try to make gradual changes, like picking out a couple of different foods when you go to the supermarket, experimenting with home cooking, and suggesting healthier options to eat at home without necessarily pointing out that you’re picking them because they’re healthy. You might have seen the current Sainsbury’s advert with Jamie Oliver. It’s a family cooking spaghetti and meatballs with tomato sauce that you can make for under a fiver – that’s a great example and if you search the net there’ll be loads more recipes like that.

(I don’t work for Sainsbury’s I just think it’s a good idea!!!)

What are the energy requirements to produce meat for american diets as oppsed to vegitarian food sources?

October 142009

What do we as the state of Michigan need to produce meat for americans and other foods for vegitarian

Great question!

Some quotes on what it takes to make a single pound of beef – focusing on the energy used to make beef:

GRAIN USED TO MAKE BEEF

"It takes sixteen pounds of grain to make the average pound of feed live beef. And virtually all the grain eaten in the United States is feed live beef; and in all modern industrialized countries too. Sixteen pounds of grain to make a pound of beef, that’s the feed conversion ratio. Well it only takes one pound of grain to make a pound of whole wheat bread or to prepare a pound of rice. We’re wasting the other fifteen pounds. It’s just basically going into manure which doesn’t get used as a fertilizer because that’s how the system has gone out of whack; it just becomes a pollutant in the water table. What happens when you eat lower on the food chain, you eat a more plant-based diet, you move in a vegetarian or vegan direction, you are in effect consuming far less resources, and therefore there is less water pollution, there is less air pollution, there is less soil erosion, there are fewer greenhouse gases involved."

WATER USED TO MAKE BEEF

"To date, probably the most reliable and widely-accepted water estimate to produce a pound of beef is the figure of 2,500 gallons/pound. Newsweek once put it another way: "the water that goes into a 1,000 pound steer would float a destroyer."
http://www.vegsource.com/articles/pimentel_water.htm

"If you gave up beef, you’d save over 300,000 gallons a year. A whole lot more than you could save by never showering."
http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/environment.html

LAND USED TO MAKE BEEF (Emphasis on clearing rainforests)

"It takes a lot of rainforest land, water, and energy to make a fast-food hamburger. As a matter of fact, fifty-five square feet of rainforest is destroyed for every quarter pound hamburger that comes from a cleared rainforest. That’s the size of a small kitchen! Not only that, but since the soil in the rainforest does not contain many nutrients, after a few years of cattle ranching it becomes very difficult to grow anything on the land— even grass. What was once a beautiful, lush, living rainforest becomes a dry, desert-like wasteland. When this happens, even more rainforest is slashed and burned for cattle ranching."
http://www.ran.org/new/kidscorner/about_rainforests/factsheets/facts_about_beef/

ENERGY USE TO MAKE BEEF/IMPACT ON PLANET

" Livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together.

Burning fuel to produce fertiliser to grow feed, to produce meat and to transport it – and clearing vegetation for grazing – produces 9 per cent of all emissions of carbon dioxide, the most common greenhouse gas. And their wind and manure emit more than one third of emissions of another, methane, which warms the world 20 times faster than carbon dioxide."
http://michaelbluejay.com/veg/environment.html

"The fossil fuels and carbon emissions involved in farming, transporting, processing and distributing food is enormous, said Eshel. Also, because it takes 10 times as much energy to grow a pound of beef than to grow a pound of corn, it’s a lot more efficient for humans to eat the vegetables directly, when possible."

Where can I find bland food diets for acid reflux?

October 102009

Posted in food diets | 1 Comment »

I need names of good recipes or websites where I can find easy stuff to make bland meals for myself for my acid reflux problem.

I have acid reflux too and I don’t follow a bland diet. I just avoid certain foods that will cause flares. Like chocolate, tomatoes, spices, coffee and tea unless decaffeinated. Also watch for fruit juices which contain a lot of acid. Other than those things you should be able to eat most anything. Also it is important to take over the counter medications daily like Pepcid , Tums and/or Prilosec these will help immensly and you may be able to eat some of the bad foods if you take them.

Do you think that the rise of junk food in our children’s diets is helping to cause ADD and other disorders?

October 42009

As well as other problems? I mean all this processed food and their associated chemicals cannot be good. It seems like a vicious cycle, junk food in, kid gets hyper, feed them Ritalin, then more junk food. Are we slowly destroying our children?

Absolutely. My daughter was diagnosed with ADD at age 8. We decided not to pump her full of meds but instead to change our lives. We started out having a even tempered, even toned controlled environment. A calm, stress free home will do wonders on a child with ADD.
Next up was the food. NO red dye whatsoever, limited amounts of sugar (except Holidays and Birthdays – then she’s welcome to go wild with it). no caffeine, a healthy diet and no soda’s.
complete turn around. her doctor told me last year she seemed to "grow out of it." LOL well, it took a lot of work for her to "grow out of it" but was completely worth it for everyone.

Edit: To the person that feels sad that people will not medicate their child- my child had NO behavior problems whatsoever when she was diagnosed. She had certain personality traits that they related to ADD. Why in the frig would I medicate her BEFORE trying something less drastic like a change of lifestyle? I personally feel REALLY BAD for the kids that are medicated so quickly because mom and dad don’t wanna put in extra effort. As long- my daughter is the happy healthy straight A student that she is today, why would I want to put her on something that can cause liver damage in the long run?
I feel my kids are so lucky after reading your post.
